3 After Noah
In the late 1930s, Robert Keyes started our antique furniture restoration endeavor in London’s East End. His journey was interrupted by a 6-year stint in the war, but upon his return, he picked up right where he left off. After completing my apprenticeship with Robert in the early 1980s, I took over and established a workshop in Islington, close to our present location. I crossed paths with my now-wife and business partner, Zoë Candlin, a textile designer, in 1981. From early on, it seemed inevitable that we’d embark on a collaborative venture. Hence, we co-founded After Noah and officially opened our doors on 11th May 1990, situated on Upper Street, Islington. Our vision was to reinvent the typical antique shop, creating a space where customers felt comfortable inquiring about prices. Reflecting on those times, it’s astonishing to think of the many antique shops that once thrived, with many having since closed down. Many wonder about the origin of our name, “After Noah.” Think of it as our timeline marker. Over the years, we’ve expanded and diversified. We welcome you to visit – we’re open all week!
